Hire Period and Costs

  • Three days is the minimum and this must include Thursday & Friday

  • At least one of the artist exhibiting must be a QAS member (annual membership $20)

  • Artists must have their own equipment for hanging the exhibition. Upon booking the space the gallery manager will discuss display options.

  • Rent costs are to be $25 per day. If the QAS credit card facility is used (at the discretion of the gallery manager) a further 10% will be added to that individual sale

  • 50% of the total hire fee (based on $25 per day) is to be paid at the time of booking. A key bond of $30 is also payable. This key bond will either be refunded or used towards the outstanding hire amount (and the Cloakroom Gallery has been left in a satisfactory state).

  • A refund for any cancellation is at the discretion of the QAS committee.

Booking & Manning the Gallery

  • Please contact the gallery manager to organise an appointment, to show a sample of your artwork and view the gallery space. You can also discuss possible dates for your exhibition. The booking form must be filled in and handed (or posted) to the gallery manager with a cheque for 50% of the hire fee, $30 key bond plus QAS membership (if not already a member). This will confirm your exhibition dates. The balance of the gallery hire fee is to be paid to the gallery manager on the day of setting up.

  • Manning the gallery is primarily the resposibility of the artist, however the gallery manager is there to help with the set up or to sit the gallery for two days (weekly). Preferred opening hours are between 11am and 6pm daily but this can be flexible.

Artist's Responsibilities

  • Hanging: Artwork, including labels or numbers and catalogue are to be presented in a professional manner. The artist must supply all hanging equipment. Hanging hooks, nails and blutack are to be used with due care.

  • Signage & Advertising: A blackboard sign at the front door, banner and two sandwich boards (not to be placed on the pavement) are available for use. Displaying a personal profile is recommended. The artist is responsible for any further signage and advertising. If advanced notice is given, the artist can advertise in the QAS quarterly newsletter at no cost.

  • Opening Night: If an 'Opening Night' is planned, invitations and catalogue are to be arranged by the artist. Food and drinks are to be supplied and managed by the artist including cleaning up after the event. Access can be arranged for the use of the QAS kitchen.

  • Insurance / Copyright: The artsit is responsible for the insurance of all works and props displayed or stored in the gallery and any copyright issues.

  • Conclusion of Exhibition: The artist is to remove all artworks, props and rubbish. A vacuum cleaner is available for use during the exhibition and for the final tidy up. The gallery and annex rooms are to be left clean and tidy and in a satisfactory state for the key bond to be returned.

  • Care of Gallery and QAS Property: Windows and doors must be securely closed and locked each evening. Signs are to be brought inside. All lights must be turned off. The gallery walls, floors, QAS signs and property are to be treated with care. Any unreasonable damage to the building or property that requires repair will be at the expense of the artist.
