TEXTURAL

ARTWORKS BY SUE WADEMAN & STUART BATEMAN

Interior Designer, Stuart Bateman and Textile Artist, Sue Wademan have joined together to present an exhibition of tantalising textured paintings and fabric collages.

After Stewart & Sue’s recent success at the New Zealand Affordable Art Show in Wellington, they decided to exhibit their work side by side for the first time.

This exhibition held at the Cloakroom Gallery is to show Queenstown locals and visitors what they’ve been creating over the past few months.

Both Sue & Stuart are ‘Artists in Residence’ at The Studios' in the old school house on the corner of Ballarat & Stanley Streets (an initiative of the Queenstown Art Society) and both have a love for texture, colour and design.

A CHANGE IN THE WEATHER

Sue was proud to bring a travelling exhibition called "A Change in the Weather" to the cloakroom Gallery from July 3rd.

This is the work of contemporary textile artists from Austrailia and New Zealand. They are making a comment on climate change through their art.

The QAS were very pleased to have this exhibition running throughout Queenstown's Winter Festival .

‘A Change in the Weather’ is the title of an exhibition that aims to educate and draw people’s attention towards issues related to Global Warming & Climate Change.

This was the first time the Queenstown Art Society has hosted a travelling exhibition at the Cloakroom Gallery.

The exhibition ran for 3 weeks& closed July 24th

The SUMMER TIME exhibition put on by the Artists in residence in the QAS studios is over.

Karyn Hitchman's painting . . . . . which we fondly retitled"Purple Jandals" was sold as it typified the Kiwi summer feel, as well as being very well painted.

Antonia Woods also sold her little 'Nuggets' triptych. Antonia is leaving us to do her Arts Degree in Dunedin this month, so who knows where she will go with her art career!

Lots of people enjoyed the experience of seeing what was being produced in the QAS Art Studios, and many of these viewers visited the artists next door in the studios after they had seen our exhibition.

THE SILK ROAD EXHIBITION 2009

The second Silk Road Exhibition opened at the Cloakroom Gallery in Queenstown on October 2nd 2009 at 5.30pm

and runs to Saturday, 17th Oct.

Several awards (our major sponsor is The Fabric Collection) were presented at the opening event.

This exhibition is a vivid & diverse show as all entries must have a high content of silk and be an original design. More than 20 textile artists from around New Zealand have entered this year, and there are around 50 pieces on show, and for sale. Every type of textile practice is exhibited. Silk painting, weaving, quilting, embroidery, fabric collage, even the ‘painters’ have included silk in their paintings, so don’t miss this intriguing exhibition if you are in the Queenstown area at this time of the year.

The opening was a huge success, with prizes handed out to 2 of our prize winners (the locals) and the rest being given to the out of town winners soon.

CONGRATULATIONS all entrants and especially winners. It was Bryn & Margaret Melhop (the owners of our main sponsor The Fabric Collection) who this year judged it admirably.

The Cloakroom Gallery is situated near the centre of town in the old school house on the corner of Ballarat & Stanley Streets. Gallery hours are 11 to 4pm Thursday & Friday, or by appointment - ring Sue Wademan on 0274 05 2469 or

e-mail her on wademan@xtra.co.nz
