Silk Road Exhibition 2009

The second Silk Road Exhibition opened at the Cloakroom Gallery in Queenstown on October 2nd 2009 at 5.30pm

and runs to Saturday, 17th Oct.

Several awards (our major sponsor is The Fabric Collection) were presented at the opening event.

This exhibition is a vivid & diverse show as all entries must have a high content of silk and be an original design. More than 20 textile artists from around New Zealand have entered this year, and there are around 50 pieces on show, and for sale. Every type of textile practice is exhibited. Silk painting, weaving, quilting, embroidery, fabric collage, even the ‘painters’ have included silk in their paintings, so don’t miss this intriguing exhibition if you are in the Queenstown area at this time of the year.

The opening was a huge success, with prizes handed out to 2 of our prize winners (the locals) and the rest being given to the out of town winners soon.

CONGRATULATIONS all entrants and especially winners. It was Bryn & Margaret Melhop (the owners of our main sponsor The Fabric Collection) who this year judged it admirably.

The Cloakroom Gallery is situated near the centre of town in the old school house on the corner of Ballarat & Stanley Streets. Gallery hours are 11 to 4pm Thursday & Friday, or by appointment - ring Sue Wademan on 0274 05 2469 or
